Our Advocacy Priorities
Funding Equity for Charter Schools
Public charter schools receive significantly less money per student than their district peers. In some cases, this difference is more than $4,000 per student. AFGS believes that public charter school students are not worth less just because their family decides to send them to a different public school. We will work with policymakers and stakeholders to ensure that public charter schools receive the same amount of per-pupil funding as their district counterparts.
Protect Autonomy for Public Charter Schools
Public charter schools are public schools that have the autonomy to choose their own curriculum, hire staff and faculty who best fit the needs of their students, and allocate resources towards high-impact strategies that best serve students. In exchange for this autonomy, charter schools are held to higher levels of accountability than other public schools. However, sometimes, regulations or laws undermine that autonomy. AFGS remains committed to protecting charter schools from regulatory overreach.
